I'm very happy to have work in SPECULATION (ELATION 10): THE ENCOUNTERING, a screening programmed by Torsten Zenas Burns which will take place on May 13th at 6:30pm at the New York Institute of Technology (Beijing Campus) @ Communication University of China in Beijing, China. Monica Panzarino Sings The Star-Spangled Banner will screen alongside videos from some wonderful artists including Darrin Martin, Jacolby Satterwhite, Bjorn Melhus, Kristen Lucas, and Ben Russell. Really wish I could be there to see it in person!
So excited that Monica Panzarino Sings The Star-Spangled Banner will open the brand new Live to Tape: Artist Television Festival on Monday, May 18th at Links Hall in Chicago, Il! My video will screen first in the "Aesthletics" program, which is co-curated by Beckie Stocchetti & Christy LeMaster, and includes works by Dara Birnbaum and TVTV. A write-up in the Chicago Reader about this new festival may be found here. For the full festival schedule, click here.
Just finished up my very first artist's residency at Signal Culture, an experimental media art organization located in Owego, NY. This was not my first time in Owego (I had residencies at the Experimental Television Center in 2003, 2007, and 2008), but it was my first time back since the horrific flooding in 2011. I was glad to see Owego revitalized and thriving, with several new businesses. Signal Culture was all I had hoped for and more! It features a large artist's studio filled with one-of-a-kind image processing equipment, an extensive reading/viewing library, comfortable accommodations, and great company (spent some quality time with researcher-in-residence, Misha Rabinovich). I had a productive week jamming on some of my favorite tools including the Dave Jones Colorizer, Amiga Harmonizer, and black & white Wobbulator built by Signal Culture co-founder, Jason Bernagozzi. I worked with a combination of found VHS footage and recordings I've been making of television weather broadcasts, among other sources (some pics below). But I have to say the highlight of my trip was visiting the studio of legendary toolmaker Dave Jones, and checking out his new Eurorack VideoSynth modules (which were absolutely mind-blowing). For more information about Signal Culture, check out their website, and this interview with Jason Bernagozzi in Hyperallergic.
